Lauren Christine Soudermett (nee Lee) was born in Alberta, Canada, on a Tuesday, in January of 1986. Some of her earliest childhood memories are of Alberta’s Boreal Forest where her father co led an outdoor organization of wilderness skills, survival, and exploration. It was during these young years that she would build a strong love for seasons, and nature.
Lauren loved swimming in Wabamun, Hasse, and Long Lake, as well as canoeing through cattails and down the North Saskatchewan River. Childhood was spent running through the forest playing Predator vs Prey, ice fishing, building quincey igloos on the ice laden Kettle Lake, and falling in love with the howl of distant wolves in the Kettle forest. Snowshoeing, tobogganing, hiking, building fires, and sleeping in tents and cabins were beloved activities, whether it was rain, shine, or snow. It was during her time on the lakes that she found her favourite birds by their calls; the Red Winged Blackbird, and the loon. You can often find a reflection of these younger years in her writing.
When Lauren was ten, her parents brought her and her sister west, to Vancouver Island in Canada’s Pacific Northwest. Though a completely different region and landscape, it would be the British Columbia rainforest that would further extend her love of nature. On the island, she would find rivers and lakes to replace those of her past, as well as a newly developed passion for the ocean. Here, she would fall in love with the wild.
Lauren continued education after high school, bringing her to different cities, including one cold winter semester in Toronto, always keeping her involvement within writing communities. While pursuing other passions in horticulture, and the PNW, she met her literary muse in a small remote community in The Kootenays, one of British Columbia’s mountainous regions. It was then that her passion for writing was recognised, uplifted, and reignited.
Lauren, her husband, and their two children currently reside in the suburbs of Vancouver. Her passions are writing, plants, painting, attending garden tours, earthing, swimming in natural waters, immersing in seasons, coffee, tea, cities, country scape, long walks on the beach, camping, beach fires, west coast spas, dining on patios, and true love. Her goal is to one day participate in a triathlon.
